Complimentary Cedar Shoe Trees Included
We believe your shoes should be ready for the world the moment they arrive. As such, your shoes will arrive with a set of complimentary cedar shoe trees and, as a courtesy, we will perform the First-Time Conditioning for you, showing you how to apply a light layer of Saphir Crème Universelle to "wake up" the leather, laying the foundation for a lifetime of wear.
The most critical secret to shoe longevity isn't a cream; it's time.
The 24-Hour Rule: High-quality leather is porous and absorbs nearly a shot-glass worth of moisture from your feet during a full day of wear. To prevent the leather from warping or developing odors, you must allow them at least 24 hours of rest between wears.
Wicking with Cedar: Always insert cedar shoe trees immediately after removing your shoes. Unfinished cedar wicks away moisture, acids, and salts while smoothing out walking creases and maintaining the shoe's original silhouette.
New, high-grade leather can feel firm initially. This is a sign of quality, not a poor fit.
Setting the Memory: The break-in process as a gradual period where the leather’s natural fibers soften and conform perfectly to your foot's unique contours over time. Each time you put on your new pair of Chancellor's, your feet will feel more "at home" and one more wear closer to a glove-like fit.
Pro Tip: Wear your new shoes for only 1–2 hours at a time around the house for the first few days. This "slow-and-steady" approach prevents blisters and allows the leather to flex naturally without stress.
Rotate your shoes, giving them at least 24 hours to dry and rest between wears.
Use cedar shoe trees for moisture wicking and to preserve structural integrity.
Use a shoe horn when putting on your shoes to protect the leather uppers.
Brush, wipe and condition your shoes regularly to ensure life-long health.
Never use direct heat (space heaters or hair dryers) to dry wet shoes; this causes leather to become brittle and crack.
Avoid "instant shine" sponges like those labeled "Mink Oil", as they contain silicones that seal the pores and suffocate the leather.
Don't skip the shoehorn. It protects the heel counter from collapsing, preserving the shoe's structural integrity.
For Almansa leather, we highly recommend a "Universal" approach to avoid the dangers of harsh solvents found in many cheap polishes. We suggest using only a high-quality, solvent-free product like Saphir Crème Universelle.
Brush: A quality horsehair brush is essential to remove surface dust and grit that can act like sandpaper on the grain. Brush your shoes gently toward the floor, knocking off all visible dust from surface and seams.
Wipe: Gently wipe the uppers with a lightly damp microfiber cloth to remove stubborn or residual dirt.
Condition: Apply a small amount of Saphir Crème Universelle with a cotton cloth in circular motions. This jojoba-based cream provides deep hydration and protection for all fine leathers and is also formulated with natural beeswax to add a layer of surface protection that can be buffed to a high shine.
Buff: After 3 minutes, buff vigorously with a 400+ GSM microfiber or polishing cloth to reveal a sophisticated, natural luster. Work vigorously around the toe and heel areas for a classic polished look.
